5 EASY ways to support your immunity this winter

Hi Mungbeans,

Winter has well and truly set in and we are all (hopefully) being extra cautions about germs & bugs that may be floating around! Below I have put together 5 ways you can support your immune system all year round.

1- Cod Liver Oil
This amazing oil is often overlooked when we think of immunity but it should be at the top of the list!
Not only does it naturally contain vitamin A & D, both well known for supporting our immune system in their own way, but the omega-3 eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) found in cod liver oil supports the body’s natural anti-inflammatory response which helps our body to fight off colds and the flu. Cod liver oil specifically helps the respiratory system, which is perfect for the current pandemic of Covid19 floating around.

By far the best Cod Liver Oil is by Nordic Naturals, they are third party tested for freshness & heavy metals. The taste is also very different then you would imagine, the freshness of this product eliminates any fishy taste & you can purchase naturally flavoured oils! My personal favourite is strawberry & I actually look forward to taking it each day, straight off the spoon. (Head to the shop on my site to get yours now (& at the most affordable price around) or click here).

2- Pre & Probiotics

Around 70% of our immune system is located in our GUT so you can understand how important it is to support your gastrointestinal system all year round. During these uncertain times with Covid19 & all of the normal winter bugs that resurface at this time of year, there is no time like the present to get your GUT right! If you suffer with digestive complaints such as bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, GIT pain, flatulence, painful stools, painful gas, cramping, burping or belching etc then your GIT needs a helping hand! Probiotics are an easy & effective way to improve your overall digestive health & also boost immunity! Probiotics are the good bacteria in your GUT and when it is properly balanced, you won't suffer from these symptoms! When taking probiotics, it is important that you are also consuming enough prebiotics (as they feed the probiotics & keep them alive) so your whole digestive environment will flourish! Taking them both together in one natural supplement is ideal & getting the good bacterias from natural sources is even better! Amazonia Pre-Probiotics is a delicious powder you take once a day to gain all of the benefits above! Click here to check it out & for more information.

NATUROPATHIC TIP: Foods to include along side this supplement for GUT support: Artichoke, Dandelion greens, Garlic, Onions, Leeks, Asparagus, Banana, Kefir, Sauerkraut, Miso, Kimchi, Kombucha, Pickles, Tempeh.

3- Lipo-C

The absorption of liposomal vitamin C is significantly higher than that of a standard vitamin C supplement. It is the next best thing to getting vitamin C injected directly into your vein, intravenously. Liposomal simply means ‘surrounded by a fat/lipid molecule’ meaning it is very easily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. It is no surprise to many practitioners that standard vitamin C isn’t absorbed anywhere near as well, which is mainly due the abundant GUT issues many people are suffering with.

Vitamin C is amazing for skin health, not only does it help repair free radical damage but it also brightens the skin and helps fade dark spots while stimulating collagen production & improving the skin's texture and quality.

Liposomal vitamin C also provides cardiovascular support and its antioxidant properties reduce oxidative stress throughout the body. So bottom line, liposomal vitamin C wins against standard vitamin C hands down!

There is a national shortage of Liposomal vitamin C currently due to Covid19 & people giving their immune systems a much needed helping hand. There is still some in stock but be quick as they are sure to sell out! Click here to get yours now.

4- Medicinal Mushrooms

My top mushrooms for immune boosting:

(Click on the name of each mushroom for extra information).

Reishi has a strong immune boosting function via the white blood cells which are produced in bone marrow called lymphocyte's. They circulate through the blood & lymphatic system and aid in the destruction of cells that have been infected with a bacteria or virus and also lend a helping hand to other immune cells to control positive immune response.

Studies have also shown Reishi has a number of other amazing properties including antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral effects which makes it the perfect addition to your supplement regime against covid-19 due to its anti-viral properties*.

Chaga is a powerful mushroom that research has shown may regulate the production of cytokines, supporting the immune system by helping cells communicate to each other. This may help the body fight off colds, flu's & many other illnesses.

Cordyceps has been used traditionally to aid many diseases & aliments and has more than 21 clinically approved benefits on human health including anti-diabetic, anti-tumor, anti-oxidative, immunomodulatory, sexual potentiator and its anti-ageing effects. It is also beneficial for lung support so adults with compromised lung function may benefit from cordyceps supplementation.

5- Collagen

Many of the individual amino acids found in collagen such as glycine, proline, and glutamine have been shown to play a specific role in the immune system. Glycine, glutamic acid, arginine and BCAAs may also regulate the inflammatory process and support immunity. Collagen powder will also help your hair to grow long & strong, supports the GUT, strengthen & lengthen nails, supports the skin, reduces fine lines & wrinkles to name a few. You can chose unflavoured to add into tea, coffee, soup, water, juice or you can enjoy the waterberry flavoured (which is delicious) in filtered water as an tasty drink! Click here for the waterberry flavour (my absolute favourite) or click here for the unflavoured!

On top of these supplements don’t forget to include these foods to boost your immunity:

Warming foods: Fresh garlic, onions, Turmeric, ginger, chilli & pepper.

Orange/yellow/red foods are high in vitamin A: Sweet potato, mango, rockmelon, papaya, apricot, nectarine, grapefruit, watermelon.

Foods high in vitamin C: citrus fruits, broccoli, capsicum, Brussels sprouts, spinach, tomatoes, winter squash.

These small daily inclusions can revolutionise your whole system & strengthen your immune system to keep you healthy all year round!

Stay well,
