Like many of you, I have been less active over this isolation period and i'm not happy about it!
I am now well rested & recharged (which was much needed) and its time to get back in tip top shape before going back to the office!
I have created this simple detox to be a realistic guide you can complete at home (ISO or not), with barely any preparation and it's easy to stick with! If you want to detoxify your body, clear your skin or maybe even lose a few Kg's then this 6-step guide is perfect for you.
So lets keep it simple and start with:
Your 6 step guide:
1- Warm lemon-salt water.
Have 1/2 a lemon squeezed into 500ml of warm water upon waking with 1/2 a teaspoon of Himalayan or Celtic sea salt added in!
The lemon is detoxifying & promotes liver function while the salt is hydrating & is important for thyroid function while helping the cells clear out excess debris.
Naturopathic tip: This is something you can continue to do after the 2 week ISO detox.
2- Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.
Mix 1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar (with the mother) in 250ml of water before each meal. Apple cider vinegar is known for its role in digestion by increasing stomach acids to help break down food! Drinking some before each meal will stop any uncomfortable digestive complaints such as bloating, painful flatulence or heartburn & will also help speed up your metabolism & encourage weightloss.
Always rinse your teeth with cold water after drinking apple cider vinegar to wash away acidity in the mouth.
Naturopathic Tip: This is something you can continue with after the 2 weeks, although it is not necessary for everyone to do it 3 times a day! You can continue to do it once per day, in the morning with your lemon water ongoing (be sure to rinse those teeth).
3- Dry skin brushing.
Everyday before your shower, brush your skin in circular motions from your feet, all the way to your heart.
It is best to use a natural skin brush to promote lymphatic drainage and improve waste clearance. This process of detoxification is very important & gives the body a much needed helping hand. It is also very beneficial in keeping your skin soft & smooth.
Naturopathic tip: Continue to practice this every second day once the ISO detox is finished!
4- Nuzest Good Green Stuff supplement
*Take 1 serving of the Nuzest powder in 300ml of cold water once daily (To purchase, head to my online store).
This delicious greens powder contains phytonutrients, herbs, vitamins, vegetables & fruits to support your overall health. It has CoQ10 & B vitamins to encourage energy production & herbs such as dandelion, turmeric & milk thistle to promote liver detoxification. 5- Cruciferous vegetables.
Eat 1 cup of cruciferous vegetables, steamed lightly everyday.
Cruciferous vegetables, also commonly called Brassica are so important for proper phase 2 liver detoxification & to clear out unwanted toxins & excess hormones. Some of the most common brassicas include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, swedes, and turnips, collard greens, cress, kale, mustard greens and bok choi.
Its best to enjoy a mix of them each day!
Naturopathic tip: avoid this step if you have a known thyroid condition. If not, continue to enjoy these ongoing as a part of a healthy diet!
6- Epsom salt foot bath.
Add 1 cup of epsom salts & 1/2 a cup of bi-carb soda to a bucket of warm water & soak feet for 30 minutes before bed. Also you can add a few drops of lavender oil for relaxation & stress relief.
Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate and magnesium is the 4th most abundant mineral in the body, needed for any bio-chemical processes supporting the nervous system. It is the great muscle relaxer & helps with muscular pain & swelling. The added bi-carb is said to draw out toxins & detoxify your system via your feet!
Naturopathic tip: Do this 3 times a week ongoing after the ISO detox is completed.
General Tips to follow:
- Avoid processed foods
- Avoid dairy & gluten rich foods
- Limit sugar (but still enjoy organic fruit)
- Drink 2 litres of water daily
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day (a gentle walk or yoga is perfect)
- End the day with a short meditation (The headspace app is great for beginners).
